Always known as a quality brand, Intense Cycles are literally cover to cover in the latest dirt 100 magazine.
INTENSE CARBINE 29
You may well remember us raving on about an Intense Tracer in the past, one that we’d fitted with a Cane Creek AngleSet, it was an amazing bike. Well, this Carbine 29 is basically a beautiful carbon version of that bike, but without the need for an AngleSet. It is nothing short of insane, and that’s a good insane. It is super light and highly capable, especially when fitted with a coil shock, which we think suits the suspension design better than any air shock. Overall it might not quite be able to match the Specialized Enduro on rougher tracks, but at the same time some riders might find the Enduro too much and prefer the 125 to 140mm of travel that this bike offers. This one is definitely a Dirt favourite.
INTENSE SPIDER 29 COMP
With travel adjustable from 115mm up to just 130mm this 29’er Intense Spider is about as short travel as we tend to go, but despite being on the edge of our spectrum it is one of our favourite frames. It is just super fast. You might be thinking that any short travel bike like this will be fast, and yes they are if you are pedalling on a technically– void track, but where this one differs is that it’s built with the kind of geometry that we love, the kind of geometry that lets you carry on going fast when the trail gets more technical. Sadly we’ve found bikes of this nature to be a rare breed, but they’re a type that we love, especially if that majority of your riding isn’t super rough.
INTENSE 951 EVO
Intense were one of the first companies to play around with larger wheels in a DH bike, and so it comes as little surprise to find that this 27.5” wheeled 951 EVO is totally dialled. They’ve really got the geometry needs of the bigger wheels sorted, and this bike is super slack and has plenty of cockpit room. We’ve always liked Intense’s M9, but this frame is faster than the M9, and we like faster. In terms of characteristics it’s a bit like Scott’s Gambler in that it likes the rough stuff, but somehow this frame just seems a bit more refined. Will 27.5” wheels take off in DH? Who knows, but what we do know is this is one hell of a bike.
Here at Blazing Bikes the brand is much loved, we are always putting together great custom builds on a regular basis.
